Ambition for excellence #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so as usual I’ll share my thoughts with you. I entered a photography competition this week and yesterday I met up with Chris and Jan from the Caravan Gallery who gave me prints of the pictures I had in their exhibition. I learnt a few things from the Blast festival of photography but it was actually a hash tag that stuck a chord with me. It was the Arts Council hash tag, #AmbitionforExcellence that made a difference. I decided I would adopt ambition for excellence in my photography. I am now trying to concentrate more and take fewer but better pictures.

ambition for excellence

The Red Lion

I took this picture to enter in a competition. I needed a picture taken in Darlaston which isn’t the most scenic of places but I made a mental note of a few places and this was top of the list because it’s just been repainted. It’s a shame about the cars in front of the pub but that was unavoidable. This image would make a great art card and I have a hi-res copy in case I decide to do a couple of art cards for Darlaston at some time in the future. Anyway, it stands a good chance of winning the competition.

Ambition for excellence

I want to take photographs today but at the moment it’s raining so I might be dodging the showers today. I have one photo of the Fountain in Tipton ready for printing as an art card and I think the other will be a picture of the Pie Factory. Maybe the art cards will sell better when I have a choice of four. I’m sure a few people will buy all four as a set. They will all be limited editions of 1,000 and so they are quite collectable. Anyway, my ambition for excellence aim means taking my time and creating an image for each art card that is as good as possible.

The journey

My journey the past few years has been one of writing, photography and social media management and I think all three have improved. The social media management has become more competitive but I learn new tricks all the time. Our history page has been doing well recently and I am now going to try to promote my Facebook page more.

My original idea was to make my website like a magazine with articles on different subjects and then decided on a more personal ramble one a week on Sunday. This week I wrote one article on photography and now it’s Sunday again and I’m rambling! I need to write more articles and perhaps focus all the articles on photography, art and culture.

It is difficult to write about culture without appearing snobbish. I like art and see photography as an important part of art.  I also enjoyed a couple of performances at the jazz festival and I listen to classical music. I would like to combine an art exhibition with classical music but that is perhaps too ambitious. When I listened to Florence Joelle sing at the art gallery recently, the venue did add something to the performance.

I’ll write about photography again on Tuesday and hopefully write more articles this week. If you would like to subscribe to my blog just enter your email address at the top of the sidebar or follow me on Twitter for links to the latest posts. Those links are also on my Facebook page.
