Art on my mind #ramble

It is Sunday morning and so once again you get an exclusive pass that allows you into the labyrinth that is the neural network that I call my mind. Yes, I will share my thoughts once again and today, I have art on my mind…

Art on my mind

Art on my mind

Yes, I have art on my mind this week. The picture above has been in an exhibition at Wednesbury art gallery. It didn’t win an award but I have an invitation to the awards evening this week. I’ll be there with my camera photographing the presentations. I shall do my best to get those photos into the newspaper.

Creating an image

I have had art on my mind for a while and want to create a series of images. This one of ‘Bluebells in the hedgerow’ is great but  I really want to do something that hasn’t been done before. I think I’ve decided how I’m going go for it and so this is a breakthrough for me. It is the medium that has to change. I also have to convert my images to CMYK for the printer and so I still have some research to do. There is no hurry, the next exhibition I have my eye on won’t be for a while.

Bloomsbury Group

The Bloomsbury Group or Bloomsbury Set was an influential group of associated English writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists, the best-known members of which included Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster and Lytton Strachey. It also included Kathleen Garman, the daughter of Dr Garman of Wednesbury. My interest in this group has been to try to discover what they all had in common. It is a commonality that binds such a group together, now I have art on my mind, I have been looking at how I can associate a little more with like-minded people. I have come to the conclusion that it was creativity and a common intellectual identity that bound them together but also a sense of individual purpose. They all had their individual goals but found some support from like-minded people. They became influential as individuals but the confidence to do that came from being a member of the group. Freedom to explore alternatives without criticism from other members of the group was also important. There was an unwritten rule and perhaps an unspoken rule that everyone goes with the flow. Jump aboard, enjoy the journey and don’t, whatever you do, rock the boat.

Like-minded people

I won’t find anything like the Bloomsbury Group in Wednesbury but I can at least chat to people at this awards evening. I also have other ideas and might be going to some talks on art and photography as preparation for the next exhibition that I hope to be involved in.

Inspiration and motivation

Inspiration and motivation are important and my inspiration comes from a visit to an art gallery some time ago. It has taken a while for an idea to develop but I am nearly there. Motivation comes from people and I had a meeting this week that should lead to more involvement in the local art world.

Getting old

Yes, I’m getting old and feeling even older and my health is poor but I’m not going to roll over and die just yet. I have a few things on my bucket list to do. I’ve just thought, my plans for today could be messed up if Ikea causes a traffic jam again. I’m not changing my plans, I’ll have to work around them, literally.

So there you have it. I started this website in a pursuit to be a writer, then I wanted to be a photographer and now I want to be an artist. What else is retirement for if it isn’t chasing your dreams? I have art on my mind and I’m going for it.
