How to be a role model

good role model

Children and young people have their role models, adults that they respect and who influence them. The adults they listen to might see the world as a bad place to be endured and will pass this belief on to the child. A good role model will help children and young people develop positive beliefs. Enjoy life, really?

enjoy life - bluebells

Should young people get lessons on how to enjoy life when they are at school? I don’t mean endless partying or always being on holiday but choosing a career that suits them and one they will enjoy. There are many people that enjoy their work, from gardeners to doctors, but there are also doctors who are obviously in the wrong job and take it out on their patients. (more…)

Creative thoughts #ramble

creative thoughts

It’s Sunday morning and I’m sharing my thoughts with you again. My thoughts today are creative thoughts. I want to go out and take some photographs, but I want to take one that is really different. I want to create art and that takes a little thought. I not only have to decide on a subject but wait for just the right light for my image. (more…)

Big lottery win?

big lottery win

Yes, it’s Saturday morning and the sun is shining and it is lottery day. I could do with a big lottery win this week. I talked about a summer art exhibition this week when I was at the local art gallery. I could stage one if I won a few million. I can think of a few more things I could do with the money too. (more…)

High street promotions

High street

Even the government has recognised that we need to breathe new life into the nation’s High Street and promote town centres. They do pay business rates and a little local support would help more cash to flow through the local economy and a little less would go to the globalised economy that is dominated by the multi-nationals. (more…)

Status symbols #thrifty

status symbols

We are all aware of status and we all pander to it to some degree. Jeremy Corbyn may deny he uses status symbols when he dresses down to attend parliament, but on the street, it is a different story. At those left-wing political rallies, he dons his left-wing rebel leader outfit and looks more like Che Guevara than a serious British leader; which is a little worrying. (more…)

35mm prime lens #photography

35mm prime

Landscape

The rain finally stopped and I was able to go out and do some landscape photography and decided to use my 35mm prime lens. I haven’t had much of a chance to use it with all the rain and as with any new equipment, I have to get used to it. It goes to f 1.8 and so it is the widest lens I have. (more…)

Nostalgia on a Sunday #ramble

Tipton canal - nostalgia for a bygone age.

It’s Sunday and so once again I’m sharing my thoughts before I turn my hand to cooking lunch. I’ve been thinking about the days when we had brass bands playing in the park, we read books and listened to the wireless. Nostalgia is all well and good, but we have to look forward and progress. (more…)

Wednesbury ramble

WEDNESBURY RUGBY - TALLEST GOAL POSTS

Today’s picture looks like a nice landscape with the Wednesbury rugby players and the tallest goal posts in the world, but it was freezing. That was yesterday afternoon. I woke at 3am unable to breathe, my cold was so bad. I’m thinking of going out to photograph the St George’s Day parade this morning. Am I crazy? I probably am!  (more…)

Luxury for less

luxury for less

We all like a little luxury,  a nice meal or fashionable clothes. When we go to a posh restaurant, what is it we are actually paying for? We pay not just for food but for an experience. We can create our own ‘experience’ for a lot less. (more…)

Promote local #community

Promote local WEDNESBURY

I went out last night taking photos in the twilight. It can be a good time as the light is less harsh. I managed to photograph a couple of pubs and other businesses. Just putting photos on Facebook is helping to promote local business. It’s not just small businesses that I want to promote, though. (more…)

Sunny Sunday #ramble

St Margarets Walsall

Disaster?

My outing last Sunday wasn’t a disaster but the light is quite harsh for photography in early afternoon. I intend to have another go at landscape photography today, but I think I might wait and go out a little later. (more…)

Impressed? #life

impressed?

Impressed?

What do you think of today’s photo? Are you impressed? Probably not, we have to do something outstanding these days to impress people. We do need to impress people, to gain some recognition that we are worthwhile. (more…)

Bamboo underwear? #thrifty

Thrifty ideas including bamboo products

Yes, I’ve been testing out bamboo underwear. No, not famous brands. I just wanted to find out what it was like. You might think it would be uncomfortable from its name, but quite the opposite it is very comfortable. (more…)

Zoom with two fingers? #ramble

2 fingers to zoom

I have figured out the way zoom on my touchpad works in Windows 10. Yes, us computer users have to start learning the smartphone actions. It could help me learn how to use the zoom on a smartphone, I suppose… (more…)

A walk in the park #thrifty

A walk in the park is free

A Walk in the park

They have recently opened a new leisure centre complete with gym where I live and people are paying for membership to get exercise. You can do that by taking a walk in the park where there is also exercise equipment. (more…)

Can photo-blogging improve a community?

I went to a creative meeting last week and on the way home noticed there were no cars parked outside the Black Horse and took the opportunity to photograph it at night. Lots of pubs have closed down in the Black Country but this one is doing well because it’s run well. (more…)

Community blogger and photographer

SUNDAY 13 MAR 2016 (8)

Over the past few years I have slowly become a community blogger and photographer and since starting a Facebook page for A Zillion Ideas, I have been taking it more seriously. I’m now sharing art and music via Facebook as well as words and photographs. I am now asked to write for the community and organisations ask to use my photographs. (more…)

One Love Photo Challenge #photography

BANDSTAND IN BRUNSWICK PARK, WEDNESBURY

One love refers to the universal love and respect expressed by all people for all people, regardless of race, creed, or colour. Does it? People say they love all sorts of things these days and that includes all kinds of animals, food, celebrities and anything else they are obsessed with. (more…)

Online shopping #Thrifty

Online shopping can save you money and you can even buy from overseas. I’ve saved hundreds of pounds on my camera and lenses. You can also shop around for energy deals and insurance deals on a comparison site. (more…)

The winner takes it all? #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so I’m rambling again. What’s on my mind this morning? My great niece Megan, was on ‘The Voice’ last night doing battle with a team-mate. That is not a good idea, team-mates are supposed to be on the same side and the song was  a compromise that didn’t really suit either performer. (more…)

Things in common #photo-challenge

Wednesbury UK landscape

It is important to have things in common. Common parents make a family. In a community, we need to have commonality to make the community like a family. We need familiarity with common landmarks, we need common institutions and a common culture. Even a common dialect aids community cohesion. The churches in this photos are a common community landmark. (more…)

A thrifty March #thrifty

According to the marketing men it’s Mothering Sunday and you should all buy cards, flowers, chocolates and a weekend in Paris for mommy. If you don’t, you’re a mean hearted b******. You should also buy everyone a present at Christmas and on their birthdays. Don’t forget to buy Easter eggs this month either! (more…)

Social Secrets #life

We all have a dark secretive side that likes to keep certain things private. In this world of global communication, we can share our lives through social media but we do have to be careful about what we share. (more…)
