Comics and trolls #ramble

Yes, it’s Sunday morning again and so I will let you into the labyrinth of neurons and share my thoughts with you. What’s on my mind this week? Well, the weather’s better, we might reach a double-digit temperature this afternoon so I think I’ll go out and do a bit of photography. I’ve had comics on my mind this week because we have a Charlie Grigg exhibition on in Wednesbury art gallery.

comics and trolls

I know my picture has nothing to do with comics, that is spring flowers and that is the other thing on my mind. Anyway, Charlie Grigg did the cartoons for the Beano and Dandy comics as well as saucy postcards. I’ve been using some of his images on the History of Wednesbury Facebook page to help publicise the exhibition. We don’t get many cultural events in Wednesbury and they never seem to get much publicity so I try to do my bit. I am also an admin of our writers’ group page and I put a funny poem on there and it got a few complaints. They missed the whole point of the poem with their bigoted rants. This phenomenon of outrage in the digital age is starting to get on my nerves.

Outrage in the digital age

All it takes is one moronic troll to complain and all the stupid people and a few who are not so stupid join in and troll my Facebook pages. I’m trying to be tougher and take action against them but I tend to give everyone a chance and let them have their voice. A comic poem shouldn’t elicit such a response, of course, I expect a response because it was meant to amuse people. It’s a similar phenomenon to the moron whose behaviour is unacceptable and so attracts attention and then he shouts “Wot yow looking at?” at innocent bystanders. That reminds me there was an EDL rally in Walsall yesterday. They never have one in Solihull, do they?

Yes, it is spring and we will soon have spring flowers like in the picture! I have a few daffodils coming up but I really prefer those wildflowers. There were bluebells on that path last year too. I don’t think I’ll go there today, it’s too early for those flowers. I have to think of somewhere to go. I’m getting to the stage now when I choose my destination dependant on what the light is on a particular day. It is quite good light today a little grey but nicely diffused. There is little wind to blow things around and so I can get away with slower shutter speeds.

So there you have it. My little world is one of comics, spring photography and cooking lunch, which I’ll be starting soon!
