How do you create great content?

I not only create content for my website and social media channels I also curate content for The History of Wednesbury page on Facebook. So how do you create great content? I think it is all about being curious and being aware of what’s happening around you and in your world. I read a lot, I have alerts on Google, I keep up with the news and I am constantly looking for something to photograph.

Creative and crazy

I think you have to be a little crazy to be really creative. I had a 1,000 copies of the above picture printed as art cards. Will I ever sell them all? It doesn’t really matter. I sold enough to cover the printing costs and my estimate of the risks versus rewards was quite good. It took me about a year to decide on a name for this website, scribbling down different names in a notebook until one sounded right. I had an email from the hosting company this morning with an estimate for the value of just the name. It has become worth something and perhaps, even more, when you add the actual website with all the words and images.

Create great content

You can create great content by imagining what people will like and it doesn’t have to be too informative or too attention-grabbing, although that helps. It needs, primarily, to be entertaining. It needs to be something people will pass the time reading or looking at. Images are great and take little effort on the part of the viewer. You can create great content and even targeted content with very little effort if you get into the habit of looking for images that people will associate with. I’ve tried to make my content more appealing to local people and so most of my images need to be familiar. If you can pique the curiosity of the viewer that is great too and it will sometimes provoke a conversation on social media.

I’m going to end with some images, see which ones pique your interest. If you would like to subscribe to my blog just enter your email address at the top of the sidebar or follow me on Twitter for links to the latest post. You can also find links on my Facebook page.
