Design a jumper? #64MillionArtists #challenge

It’s Sunday morning and so once again I share my innermost thoughts with you. What’s on my mind this week? I’m still doing January challenge of #64MillionArtists

Today’s challenge was to design a jumper. I admit I tried to do it when I was half asleep and so I designed a jumper with pockets to keep my hands warm and shoulder patches to stop the strap of my camera bag slipping off. Then I realised my design was almost identical to the cardigan I’m wearing. I had a couple more goes and then I admitted defeat.

January challenge

January challenge

This January challenge from #64millionartists is quite good, though. It gets my mind thinking creatively and I like reading what the other participants are doing. Many of them seem to have health problems like me and that seems to bring out the creativity in us. It is also helping me accept challenges that aren’t of my own making. I challenge myself to do things all the time but these challenges require a bit more acceptance of things I don’t really like doing because I’m not very good at it. Enhancing the skills you already have is one thing but accepting challenges that require totally different skills is something different altogether.

Plans for 2018

Some readers are curious about what I have planned for this year. I’m not 100% sure myself because it will involve external challenges. I find that difficult but I need to work with other people and organisations. At the moment I’m thinking I need some exercise and I need to get back to taking photographs. I can combine the two but where shall I go to do my photography today? It is going to be a very cold day but it is sunny. I can actually see the moon from where I’m sitting. It’s nearly 10 o’clock and the moon still hasn’t set. Photography has made me so much more observant!

I shall be photographing the Black Country horse drive in May but I haven’t any other events planned which seems quite strange. I will be going to talks by artists and photographers this year as part of my latest project. I think that will be in the spring and summer. I hope it will be when the weather is better anyway. I do intend to get out there and do some street photography especially around the market and perhaps some events. Capturing images of people looking natural rather than posed. My 35mm prime lens would be best for that but I don’t really want to get that close to them so I’ll probably try a 300mm zoom lens.

I was asked if I wanted to exhibit at the art gallery but I will need at least one print to exhibit. I’m thinking of having an A1 size print done in CMYK colour to see what it looks like. That will be much cheaper than a Giclée fine art print. I want to try Giclée fine art prints too but at the moment I need cheap and cheerful. I want to develop something that can be exhibited outside and I want to interact in some way with the audience. Social media will allow interaction but I also want people to see images printed.

So there you have it, I’m really thinking about creative stuff for this year. I’ll continue as a community photographer when people ask me to take photos but apart from the horse drive I don’t have anything planned. I’ll also continue and perhaps improve my social media management. I’m beginning to understand Instagram and Twitter now! If you live near me say hello or wave when you see me out and about!

That’s all for this week. On Tuesday, I’ll be setting would be photographers a challenge to take some photographs with a narrow aperture.
