Exhibiting in the art gallery #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so once again I share with you my innermost thoughts. What’s on my mind this week? Well, art is still on my mind because I took my picture to the art gallery for it to be exhibited next month. You want to see it, don’t you?

To be exhibited in Wednesbury Art Gallery

Art Gallery

I think it is a suitable picture for an art gallery and it might win the art competition but I have a need now to take different kinds of pictures. I photographed a post box and although that isn’t quite what I want, it is a step in the right direction. I photographed the post box and then wrote a poem about it for our Darlaston Writers group

I admit a picture of a postbox by itself isn’t that exciting but when I added the poem which told a story it made more sense and it became thought-provoking and entertaining. We are planning to publish a little book of poems but I don’t think there will be room for pictures and it’ll be black and white but I think I’ll continue to take more thought-provoking pictures and see if they inspire a poem. I have another post box in mind and next to it is a rather battered and rusting telephone box. I’ve found I can make rust look appealing on some photos!

Social media

Social media can be like an interactive art gallery too. I’m quite good at social media management. I run a local history page that keeps growing, a page for the park, one for the Business Improvement District and of course I post pictures on my Facebook page for a zillion ideas. I hope to do the social media management for next year’s Blast art festival too. I’m still developing techniques to encourage people to follow Facebook pages and trying to make Twitter more useful. I’m new to Instagram but I am getting followers so I must be doing something right. On both Twitter and Instagram, I need to develop hashtags that are particular to what I’m promoting.

So there you have it. I am developing as an artist with a picture in the art gallery and as a writer trying to write poetry. Of course, I’m not an artist in the traditional sense. I can’t draw or paint pictures but my print on foam board is durable and can even be displayed outside and looks great. That is only the beginning as well, I intend to produce some more prints. What kind of print will induce people to stop and look at it, provoke some thought and a reaction? That is what I need to find out now.

That’s all for this week. If you’re local pop into Wednesbury art gallery next month and vote for my picture, ‘Narrowboat on the Walsall Canal’.
