Experiments in photography #art #Wednesburyonline

From the first time I edited my photos, I have experimented with pictures and my experiments in photography continue. I have changed colours, tried sepia and added a border to my photos. I’ve had pictures printed on canvas and on foam board and my latest project was to have 2000 art cards printed that I have to try to sell. I’m now looking at combining images for my next art card.

Experiments in photography

For an A6 card I have to get the aspect ratio right and I think I have to choose the right images to make it work. I’m combining the images using PhotoScape and it seems to be working so far but I think I need to do a lot more examples before I commit to print. I do have an HP photo-printer but it is expensive on ink. I might do some sample prints before I go ahead and have more art cards printed.

Aspect ratio

I like this image but it is the wrong aspect ratio. The A6 cards are 105 x  148mm so the size in pixels needs to be at least 1050 x 1480 pixels.

The other thing to consider before having art cards printed is the colour. The printing is done in CMYK which is cyan, magenta, yellow and key. Key is black and it isn’t a good idea to have too much black in the image. A picture on a computer screen is much brighter because it is backlit. In a print, the black can dominate the image.

I have other ideas for experiments in photography. I have a photo shoot coming up and it will be outside so I intend to shoot with my 55 – 300 lens and go for candid pictures of people around the event. I will be doing an indoor event tomorrow and that will need a flash which I dislike using but I’ll shoot wide open and try to get close to my subjects. The other thing to remember when using a flash is to watch out for highly reflective surfaced that the flash will bounce off in your background. Mirrors are the worst! Even at tomorrow’s event, there might be a little room to experiment with different shots.

Don’t be afraid to do experiments in photography, it’s what makes photography fun. If you would like to follow my blog just enter your email address at the top of the sidebar or follow me on Twitter for updates. You can also find links on my Facebook page.

And I do have a few questions for you if it’s allright. Is it just me or
does it look as if like a few of the responses come across as if they are coming from brain dead individuals?
😛 And, if you are writing on other social sites, I’d like to follow anything new you have to post.
Could you list of all of your public sites like your
Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?

    • Hi, at the end of my posts there are links to my Facebook page and Twitter account. If you look for the hashtag #wednesburyonline on Instagram you’ll find me on there too. I tend to get better responses on social media than on my blog. 🙂
