This week, I’ve done a price comparison between Aldi and my local convenience store. It’s unsurprising that Aldi was cheaper, using the local store would add around 20% to my shopping bill. For people without transport this could be a problem.

This week’s super-six at Aldi are chestnut mushrooms (250g), salad tomatoes (6) (great for those summer salads), mangetout (150g), cherries (200g), Romaine lettuce (2) (great for salads too) and peaches (4/5). They are all 59p each and the offers last until the 15th July.

I’ve just realised why the salad tomatoes weren’t in their usual place this week; they were part of the super-six! I was in a hurry and bought vine tomatoes instead!

Today’s special buys include a teppanyaki grill (like an electric griddle) for 19.99. The other special buys are all for the kitchen. I like the stick blenders for 9.99.  There are rechargeable batteries (AA and AAA)  4 for 3.99. I might get some of those; I need both. My Fuji camera uses AA batteries and my flash for my Nikon uses AAA batteries.

The Sunday special buys include a tool cabinet and there is also a cordless drill. The rest of the offers are tools, pet related or for summer products. I had some ice lollies this week 89p.

I went to a cricket match yesterday, I understand many cricket fans were watching the Aussie match on television. It’s not the same as getting out in the fresh air and seeing it for real though is it? The sun did keep going in and it was a bit windy, but I like the calm ambience of a cricket match. I needed a bit more sun and somewhere to sit! A beer would have been nice too!

On Saturday, I have another free day out at the carnival. I might buy raffle tickets from the local charities, but I really don’t have to spend any money. The funfair is less appealing at my age! I will pay to go in a classic car show next week, but most events are free. Take a camera like me and make it more interesting, you’ll be capturing those memories to look back on in years to come.

That’s all for this week, enjoy summer; I hope it will be all barbecues and carnivals. You might see free events in your local paper.  You can follow this blog and receive emails when I post a new article by entering your email address in the space at the top of the sidebar or you can follow me on Twitter for updates .
