Gareth Gates turns them on

Wednesbury Christmas Lights 2014 - crowds

The crowds turned out in the cold last night to listen to Gareth Gates perform and then turn on Wednesbury’s Christmas Lights. Those are Festive Lights for the more politically correct or Holiday Lights if you’re from over the pond…

I’m not really into celebrities or rock concerts, but last night was very good. All the performances were excellent and really professional, even the warm up acts.

Wednesbury Christmas Lights 2014 - Brendan Hawthorne

This is Brendan Hawthorne, poet laureate to the council, giving us a proper Black Country poem, before Gareth came on.

These ladies did a great job of getting the Christmas spirit going. I didn’t get the name of their act because of the noise. They do have a website and a Facebook page. If anyone knows the name of the act please comment.

The crowd was enjoying themselves, waiting for the big switch-on. The star of the event, Gareth Gates was delayed in traffic, but we were all kept amused. There was also a night market and a funfair.

These children got to go up on stage for a ‘worst’ dancer contest!

Gareth even came down from the stage to meet some of his fans.

Then finally, the big switch on by Gareth, with the deputy mayor and local councillors. I think some snow flakes hit my camera lens!

Wednesbury Christmas Lights 2014

The Christmas lights are good, as usual for Wednesbury we have lights that are in good taste, not too gaudy like some towns. This year we have two Christmas trees too!

I hope everyone enjoyed seeing Gareth Gates last night and the other acts. It’s worth wandering around town and checking out the Christmas Lights. I’ll be taking a few more photographs of the lights. On the 13th of December, Darlaston have their ‘Spirit of Christmas’ from 10am to 4pm. I’ll try to be there to take a few photos!
