Getting your priorities right #ramble

It is Sunday morning and so once again I allow you into the darkest recesses of my mind and share my thoughts with you. I missed out on the carnival yesterday, I wasn’t well but felt better later and tried for a parking spot. I decided to just walk around with my camera; carrying my camera bag too would be too tiring. I didn’t get a parking place so came home slightly disappointed but it did make me think. Something needs to be done about the parking if events are going to be staged attracting a lot of people. You have to get your priorities right. Don’t you?

Getting your priorities right

Today’s picture has absolutely no relevance to anything I’m writing about. I looked through the archive and liked that one, for no other reason. Anyway, I went out yesterday evening and took a few pictures and realised that earlier in the day I didn’t check my camera equipment properly. I suppose that was because I wasn’t feeling well. My memory card was still in my laptop, not my camera. That wouldn’t matter normally, I have spare ones but I wasn’t intending to take my camera bag around the carnival with me was I? So yesterday was a bit of a flop all round. At least Friday’s photo-shoot which was more important went quite well and the pictures were emailed to the newspaper. We can’t win ‘em all.

I think the weather today will be ideal for photography. The white cloud reflects the light nicely and I then get a diffused light that isn’t so harsh as direct sunlight. I just have to decide where to go. I photographed a building yesterday evening and I would like more shots of interesting buildings today so I can use that as a subject for my photography post this week.

Getting your priorities right

I see examples of mixed up priorities all the time. It can be difficult getting your priorities right but even the government seems to put money before people, that is a mistake. Many of the mental health problems that people face are because of the media inciting hatred. The government should be setting an example and sending out a message that we should all try to be nice to one another. Too simplistic a message? Trump has sent out a simplistic message, America First. It got him into the White House. I am not advocating such a selfish (and primitive) approach, quite the opposite. I am advocating more cooperation and less competition. I would like to see people make an effort to see the other side of an argument, to try to walk in the shoes of another for a moment. To have a little compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves. Could we try to take the time to at least try to understand the people that we find so difficult to understand?

I need to get my priorities right in life too. I have a picture  in the art exhibition that starts soon and that is one more thing to cross off my bucket list. My bucket list isn’t really about enjoying myself, it is about making a difference. It is about leaving a collection of photographs and video clips for people to enjoy in the future. I chat to people in other countries and influence them and so my ambitions have an international dimension, as strange as that might seem. I’ve been helping students in places like China, America and other countries and so I hope I have made a difference to their lives. I think we can all make a difference in some small way. It might be a very small way like recycling our waste but it still makes for a better world.

That’s it for this week. I need to get out of Wednesbury this afternoon but where shall I drive to? I won’t be going too far I just want interesting buildings to photograph.
