Having an influence #soapboxsunday

It’s Sunday morning once again and so I’ll share my thoughts with you, as usual. I do have an influence on some things because I have this blog and I’m admin of several Facebook pages. Then there is Twitter and Instagram. I can say more with one picture than some people can say with a thousand words. I can’t influence the Brexit negotiations, more’s the pity but I can influence local issues. There is some political intrigue locally and we have a few local agitators who like to stir things up. I think they are planning to be more active over the next few months in the run-up to the local elections. Having an influence on local affairs requires that one behave responsibly but I don’t think everyone in authority does do that.

Cronyism

There have been a lot of allegations regarding local affairs. There have been allegations of corruption and cronyism. The former I believe to be untrue but I can’t really say the same about the latter. The local agitators will point the finger and suggest all sorts while trying not to go over the line into libel. I’ve had a few allegations made against me over the past couple of years and they do damage one’s reputation so I shall be watching what happens over the next few months. With the leader of the council forced out, a few others might take stock now and consider their image.

Having an influence

I do know a bit about images. I make Wednesbury look nice with my photos! It is all about highlighting the good stuff and ignoring the bad stuff. You can’t always ignore the seedier side of things, though. I do sometimes point my camera at the rust and the peeling paintwork. I’m curious about everything!

The Caravan Gallery

Chris Teasdale and Jan  Williams of the Caravan Gallery are back in Sandwell, this week. I met up with them at the Tipton Canal Festival where they took pictures for their Sandwell Pride of Place Project.  They were also at the Tipton Horse Drive. I’ll suggest a few places for them to go this week if I can. They like the unusual things so they might venture down the canals or maybe around the markets. I’ve suggested Forge Mill Farm. I might meet them down there. The Blast Photo Festival will be my main interest over the coming months. I’ll contribute a few pictures to the Sandwell Pride of Place group. I hope to take a few today! I’m having an influence on that art festival in a small way and getting Wednesbury more involved. We will be the backwater with West Bromwich centre stage. When all that’s going is the crumbs from the big table, beggars can’t be choosers! I shall be very interested to see which local photographers are getting involved in the festival.

That’s all for today, time to step down from the soapbox and think about cooking lunch. I think the next few months could be interesting.
