Look at the time! #ramble #photography

It’s Sunday morning and so here I go trying to write another Sunday morning ramble. I was out early yesterday photographing narrowboats on the canal. I was even invited to join their tour but that involved walking up some abandoned locks and I know how steep that hill is! It’s a nice day again today and so I’ll be out taking photos again this afternoon. I usually start writing at about nine a clock, but today I thought, look at the time; it was after ten!

Look at the time. I wanted to photograph that boat under the bridge!

On the cut

I got to the canal just in time yesterday to see a couple of canal boats moored and they told me more were arriving later. I decided to come home and check the few photos that I had taken and then go back and catch a few coming through this section with the bridge in the background. I got distracted and again it was, look at the time, as I dashed out and tried to get through the Saturday morning traffic. I just caught this last boat but you can’t really see the bright colours.

Polarising filter

It is a good idea to use a polarising filter for canal pictures too to reduce the reflections a little bit. The pictures weren’t too bad though and I might even send a few to the local newspaper.

What else has been on my mind this week? Well, I’m really into social media and I have to decide on a policy regarding trolls and other disruptive influences. Trolls usually set up Facebook pages and Twitter accounts with the express purpose of being abusive and so we have to respond to that. Ultimately on Facebook, I will ban them but I haven’t had to do that so far.

Many people wouldn’t accept photography as art but most artists do. I have been asking for an open exhibition at our art gallery for some time without success and I’ve openly criticised the main gallery for being too dark. They are now having a competition which I’m not too impressed with but I’ll try to enter anyway. I have to submit a picture related to flowers and spring. I have the perfect picture but I can’t find the original. There might be time to take another but the flowers bloom at the beginning of May.

These flowers are Fool’s Parsley and they grow along the river at the beginning of May. Maybe they will be early this year with the warm weather? Maybe I need a bit more river and fewer flowers and a blue sky? I have a picture of some bluebells to use if all else fails. My real worry is fitting mirror plates to my printed picture…

Look at the time!

Look at the time, it’s 10:30 already. I do know some people who spend days writing a post for their blog and so I suppose I do well to do it in an hour. I have been known to write a dozen a week. I have cut down so I can get involved in other things now. It isn’t as easy as it looks and photography isn’t easy either. People want to see interesting pictures and we have just gone from not enough light to a really bright light that needs us to adapt and change camera settings.

Public relations

I’m into public relations and publicity now and so all these skills come in quite useful. I’m even considering whether I can pass on some writing and photography skills to someone younger to help them with their career goals. There are worse things to make a living at and it is a growing industry.

Anyway, I’m just about finished. Over 600 words and three pictures in 40 minutes. I think I can proof-read, edit and publish in 20 minutes!
