Looking for art #photography

Art is all around us, in the design of buildings, in the design of advertising that we see and in nature which is an evolving design. We can create images by photographing the art that is around us. I went to Wednesbury art gallery on Saturday afternoon looking for art. I photographed some of the exhibitions and the gallery.

Origins

This plaque illustrates the origins of the art gallery and is a masterpiece of skilled engraving. Even the decorative plasterwork of the interior of the art gallery is art worth photographing.

Creams

Artwork by Azeem Akhtar, “Creams”, is on display in the Richards gallery and is colourful so I took a few pictures of the exhibition. I quite liked the cartoon style of the pictures and I got reasonable pictures of them with a wide aperture and a high ISO. I shot this wide open at ISO 5000 and it looks free of noise to me. I tend to get noise on shots taken under fluorescent light. There was just spot lights in the Richards gallery.

Looking for art

If you’re wandering around looking for art to photograph it is literally everywhere. Look for signs on buildings, advertisements and in particular signs that are unusual or are typical of the place or time. We are recording the art of the time as well as the history of art. Art can also be seen in fashions. The style of people clothing or the styling of modern cars is also part of the art of the 21st century.

Sights of the 21st century

We are so used to seeing the sights of the 21st century around us, that we tend to take it all for granted. Looking for art can mean spotting a headline on a newspaper stand or a poster outside a newsagent. Those are temporary statements and so too are the headlines on newspapers. Capturing those in a photograph is capturing a important moment in time. Every moment in time will never be repeated but some are more unique than others.
