New Year resolutions and goals
Goals for 2015
I took this photo yesterday, it was freezing, that’s ice on the lake. You might have noticed I’ve added some EXIF info from the camera and my copyright notice to the picture. That’s one of my goals this year, to add copyright notices to pictures.
Goal number 0ne: copyrights
The EXIF is for my series of posts about learning to take better pictures. Those will begin on Wednesday. Don’t you wish you understood aperture settings, exposure settings and ISO settings. I intend to make that stuff easy to learn with pictures. This is goal number one.
Goal number two: investments
I will try to invest smarter this year too. It’s going to be an unpredictable year, with a general election in May. I think after the election there could be some investment opportunities.
Goal number three: localisation
Localisation is a goal for 2015 too. I want to promote things happening locally and get involved. I want to be there taking the photos and writing about it afterwards. Some of my articles have made it onto the website of the local newspaper and so covering local events fits in with that. I think newspapers are slowly embracing the digital age. We need better eBook readers before we abandon paper altogether, but the versatility of digital outweighs the ‘feel’ of paper. I’ve bought a tablet computer and would like to use that to read news, but so far I still read news from lots of sources on my laptop.
Goal number four: SEO
SEO is search engine optimisation. I need to optimise my articles more so that the search engines can find them. I need keywords! The keyword for this article is goals. I need that keyword in the title, URL, in the heading, in the alt of the picture and in the content. Adding keywords does tend to interfere with the creativity involved. This post has lots of keywords and so should be really popular with the search engines!
Goal number five: charity
Charity isn’t just about putting a few bob in a collection box. It’s thinking seriously about people less fortunate and asking if we can help. If we help others we are doing our little bit to make the world a better place. We are rewarded with self esteem and are more able to look at ourselves in the mirror. There are people struggling here in the UK and it won’t hurt me to donate a few quid to the local food bank. There are also people struggling in other countries and a little kindness goes a long way there too. I’ll try to give my time, as well as my money.
Goal number six: Health
I always intend to look after my health better, but I don’t always try as hard as I should. Eating 5 portions of fruit and veg a day can be a little tiresome. I might buy some fruit juice, that counts as one. I need to remember to take calcium tablets too.
Goal number seven: creativity
Writing and photography are creative, but I want to do more. I’ll do more editing this year, both of articles written by others and editing photos to create something artistic. I’ll try to get out more too and enjoy the natural beauty I see when I take landscape photos. We need to have goals that are good for our mental health. I find taking photographs can be very relaxing, but also keeps my mind active too.
I suppose my goals need to be new things or at least new as in a more determined effort. I’ll still be thrifty and frugal and try not to waste money. I’ll have another go at making good use of the garden, it wasn’t a great success in 2014, but I did grow a few runner beans and kept the lawn mowed. I’ll get my runner bean trenches ready when the weather goes a little bit milder!
I suppose one of my goals should be to do something totally new. Maybe go to a football match or a rock concert? I did watch Gareth Gates sing in 2014, that was a bit like a rock concert!
Do you have any amazing goals to go for in 2015? Please share your thoughts in the comments box. There will be more ideas on Wednesday, when there will be the first of my photography series on improving you photography.
