Starting your own art collection

Spring flowers 2013 063

Continuing the art week theme. Why not start your own art collection? On a budget of course! All you need to begin, is an A4 picture frame from Poundland and a picture to put in it. Art is about acceptance and so any picture that you like and accept is suitable. Then you can hang it on the wall anywhere you like.

Walsall Art Gallery – David Rowan: Pacha Kuti Ten

clip_image002

I went to see David Rowan’s exhibition at The New Art Gallery Walsall and tried to take a few photographs of the exhibits in his Pachakuti ten exhibition. This picture might give you an idea of the mood of the exhibition, but besides capturing the picture, I also captured a reflection of some of the other exhibits too. You can download a PDF that has low resolution images of all the pictures, but to really appreciate them, go and see the exhibition.

Neodigital Art | The River Tame

Spring flowers 2013 086 edit

Neodigital Art is about editing pictures to create something with emotion. I was quite annoyed when I took this photo, because the sun had gone behind a black cloud. I’ve used colorize in PhotoScape for an artistic edit. What do you think?

The psychology of art

art or photography

What do you think of today’s picture? Art or photography? Andy Warhol once said art is, whatever you can get away with or words to that effect. There have been a lot of art movements. A picture of a tin of Campbell’s soup was recognised as art once. I remember a pile of bricks being passed off as art too.

English parks and cream teas

Redhouse 033

Britain has some beautiful Victorian parks and we need them more than ever now. We live such stressed out lives, we need a relaxing break. What better way to relax than a walk in the park? It can be spoiled though, you do occasionally get loud mouthed yobs. People with uncontrolled dogs annoy me too.

Free Days Out

Today’s photo was taken in Redhouse Park, West Bromwich, a few weeks ago. On a nice day, you could do worse than go there for a picnic. There are lots of places here in the Black Country. There’s parks, nature reserves and canals everywhere. You could even do a bit of fishing!

Finance Friday | Breaking away

I read this morning that Amazon will be opening another London office with space for another 1,600 employees. That gets another cheer from Boris Johnson and boos from the North of England. Why does all new investment go to London? Why not Britain’s second city Birmingham or even Newcastle?

Thrifty Thursday | thrifty ideas

The Aldi super-six this week are red onions (1kg), cherry plum tomatoes, (250g), Galia melon, Jersey Royal potatoes (450g), fun size apples (7) and green beans (220g). I got that wrong last week, they updated the website after I had written that post. You can always click the link to check though.

The Wednesday moan

SUNDAY IN WEDNESBURY 002

There are a few signs of Spring around now in the heart of England. Blossom on the trees, bluebells in the woods and the river is lined with millions of flowers. The weather hasn’t been very good this Spring, we even had snow in March; but the forecasters promise us that it will improve for the weekend.

Neodigital Art | More diverse editing

SUNDAY IN WEDNESBURY 015

The weather has improved a little now that we are closer to summer. I took this shot on Sunday and it was quite sunny. Notice how I’ve used the trees to add depth. I didn’t edit much, I just added some contrast.

Psychology | Childhood

“Give me a child until he is seven and I’ll show you the man” is a maxim attributed to St Francis Xavier and there is obviously some truth in that. Children are very impressionable. They learn from adults and even older children.

Sunday in the Black Country

Lock and Sandwell Valley 022

The photo today is of the River Tame in Sandwell Valley Country Park. I’m not sure where I’ll go today. I want to go somewhere, because the weather forecast is good. At Walsall it’s the Caldmore Village Festival in Palfrey Park. I was going to photograph that last year, but the weather wasn’t very good.
