Perceptions #life #art
Our perceptions of life and the world we live in depends on how hard we’re finding it. When we’re struggling we become focused on the task in hand, trying desperately to make life easier. There are many people on Easy Street, but far more people struggling in Britain today.
It’s difficult if you’re struggling and trying to cope with the anxieties that entails. We focus too much on money when we don’t have enough of it. If we have constant demands on us from other people, especially if they are children dependant on us, we can feel a failure if don’t provide.
Life should be about seeing the beauty of spring flowers, having the time to walk through woodland, along rivers and being able to appreciate nature. I go to places that have been made quite ugly by man and places where our interference with nature blends with what nature is doing. Pools that were formed because of old mine workings now provide a habitat from a myriad of birds.
Whether it’s looking at and enjoying the daffodils on a spring day or browsing the exhibits in an art gallery on a rainy day; we should have time to see the beauty that is available to us. People seem to spend too much time rushing around and far too much time struggling to cope.
Music should be available to everyone too, but it seems more restricted these days. If you have access to the internet, there are services like Youtube and Spotify that will provide free music, with advertising. For people without the internet, there is still the radio and cheap CD’s and cassettes around. We need to find the time to listen to music and maybe create a little art of our own at the same time. Even doodling while you listen to music can be therapeutic.
Instead of chasing things like higher status in life and success, maybe we should slow down and see what’s there for the taking. Maybe, we should ask if life’s struggle is really worth it? There is enjoyment to be had for free… We just have to look at things differently; change our perceptions…
