Photography: Events

This weekend the weather improved in England and it was warmer than Athens. It stopped raining too, so I was went out to do landscape photography on Sunday, but saw this horse drawn event and so photographed this instead.

When you’re photographing an event there is lots of movement to capture and you’re shooting in different directions. The light changes constantly and so the camera has to adjust. I find the best setting is the sports setting, the camera focuses and takes multiple shots very quickly.

You’re trying to capture the action and the mood of the event and so speed is quite important. I took about 5 shots of this scene and chose the funniest!

I took lots of pictures and so have enough today for a couple of posts on photography. I’ll also do a post on my WordPress blog.

The shadow of the tree actually improved this shot, because it was very bright sunlight. Usually it would make it too dark.

You have to compose the picture very quickly and bright colours make it more interesting and break up the greys and greens.

The fast shutter speed captured the action well in this shot. If you want to see an enlarged version of any of these pictures just click on them. The original pictures are much larger and can be printed up to 60 inches wide as posters.

These pictures are also suitable for artistic editing like this. What do you think? Does it belong in a gallery? I’ll be using more of these pictures on WordPress today and in future posts. 2. Hi Mike, Looks like that was a fun event! I like the pictures, especially the one where the carriage was shadowed by a tree. The editing effect of the last one was cool too!

    • Hi Carolyn,

You can see shadows in every picture and so they all needed editing. They were published on the website of my local newspaper and they emailed me. I spoke to them on the phone so I could give a few details, so I think they will also be published in the newspaper too. I get asked a lot if I am from the local newspaper; this time they will be in!

I haven’t had time to do any more artistic edits, but they seem to lend themselves to that more because of the tradition attached to it. I have a gallery in mind now for a small exhibition! 🙂
