Playing lifes lottery #ramble

It is Sunday morning and so as usual on a Sunday, I’ll share my thoughts with you. My birthday will be on the 1st of February next year, as it is every year. It will be another milestone in my life and we never know what sheer luck will bring next. The date is, of course, 01/02 and I have those numbers on the lottery and they actually came up last night. It is a shame I didn’t get the other four numbers to go with them but at least I got a free ticket for Wednesday night’s draw.

Lottery

Yes, life is a lottery and although we can influence what the future will bring us we can’t have full control over our future. I’ve had to deal with a lot of problems over the course of my life and the last year has been frustrating but I hope for a little luck and try to stay positive.

Photography and community

I like my photography and I hope to attend an event today. I think it is going to be very dark clouds today so have to think how to handle that and what settings to use when I take photos outside but hopefully I’ll be going inside and chatting to people. I’m not the world’s greatest conversationalist but I know how important it is to communicate even though I find it easier to communicate in writing. I struggle with that quite often. I’ve just spent a few minutes trying to think of the word ‘articulate’.  I’m not the most articulate person…

Exhibition

I went to the art gallery yesterday where I have a picture exhibited. There were voting slips to vote for the best picture but it didn’t appear anyone was using them. I don’t really care whether I win the competition or not but I would like it conducted fairly. I don’t like winning because I don’t like to be in the limelight. I was a finalist in a competition some years ago and accepting my certificate from the mayor was hard enough. I would certainly dislike posing for photos.

In this lottery called life, we do have to try to be a ‘winner’ and accept that we must do things that we don’t like. The alternative is to be like a vegetable, stay at home and stare at the TV until we start using popular clichés from the soaps and become a cliché ourselves.  I don’t want to be a cliché. I might not be a lottery winner but I can at least be different from the crowd. I don’t want a Peaky Blinder haircut or tattoos up my legs. I avoid cheap lager and I never say at the ‘end of the day’. I admire people who are talented but I am not a fan, as in fanatic. I will admit to wearing designer clothes sometimes but again I’m not a devoted follower of fashion. I’m happy wearing Wrangler jeans over Pierre Cardin boxers but I’m not ashamed of my Tesco tee-shirt or my Matalan sweater.

I have become aware of sycophants recently. Those toadies who suck up to people they deem to be important. That is a behaviour trait that I tend to detest. I was recently accused of ingratiating myself with influential people. I think they would disagree. I don’t argue with them but I certainly don’t go out of my way to agree with them either. When asked for my advice or opinion, I tend to say, just do what you think is right.

Life is a lottery and just to decide what is right takes a bit of luck.
