Poetry and problems #ramble

Yes, it’s Sunday morning and so once again I share my thoughts with you. I’ve been doing less writing for my blog this year and even less photography. I have joined a writers’ group and so I’ve been trying to write some poetry. One poem upset a few people on Facebook and I had to delete it.  Some people are way too sensitive to be on social media. Poetry seems to have re-entered my life.

Atmospheric photography

I took this atmospheric photo last Sunday afternoon and I was hoping to take a few photos today but the weather forecast has changed. We now have rain forecast and so it might be another boring day. Maybe I can take a few pictures in between the showers? I am getting a lot of practice taking photographs in a poor light just lately.

A life problem

One life problem you have to endure sometimes is ill-health and I haven’t been well for a long time. The past couple of years have been particularly difficult and set back my recovery from a serious illness but I will continue to persevere. The past few weeks I’ve had serious mobility problems that I’m determined to get through it. It has made me realise that life is hard for people with serious mobility problems. I parked the car in a narrow parking space yesterday because the single disabled space was already in use. The car park was so poorly designed everyone was having problems.

It was difficult walking to the library for the writers’ group but by the end of the meeting, I was alright. I had a leisurely stroll back to the car and took photos on the way. We are going to contribute some poems to a broadsheet and so this week I have to try to write a decent poem. I find writing anything to be something that must come easily. If I try to force myself to write something then it isn’t as good and I don’t enjoy it. I’ll have to designate some time as poetry writing time. I would really prefer to write an amusing poem but it will have to be one that won’t upset people. I don’t want the trolls back on our Facebook page!

Initiate and reciprocate

We have to relate to other people and I help others because that is initiating a relationship of value. If people are nice to me I try to reciprocate. That is how relationships work. I always assume people like me and I do feel quite hurt when I find they are intent on causing me damage in some way. Everyone’s reputation is important and some people will complain and resort to childish name-calling. Then others will join in like the playground school fight when all the bullies gather to cheer and jeer while some poor sod gets beat up. Adults may be passed the stage of fisticuffs but they still bully by verbally attacking and abusing others. Yes, the bullying is offline and online and is always unacceptable. I don’t reciprocate bullying but I do defy it. If you bully others either online or offline, then expect your actions to catch up with you in the future. In the long run, it is not the other person you damage; it is yourself. Your reputation gets trashed not your victim’s.

Poetry should initiate an emotional response, one of empathy perhaps or perhaps it might initiate a feeling of calmness? I hope to write something to amuse, spark a bit of a giggle or even bring about haughty laughter.

That’s it for this week. Have a great Sunday. I don’t give advice but if I did I would say do something worthwhile with your day.
