Preparing for Christmas #thrifty #frugal

It might seem too early to prepare for Christmas but bargain hunting takes time. I needed a new tray and basket for my air fryer which I’ll be using a lot over Christmas. The parts were really expensive but I found buying directly from Philips was cheaper than buying from many of the stockists. It is useful to buy extra when you’re doing your weekly shop as well. Things for my Christmas buffet are already going into the food cupboard. Preparing for Christmas takes time and a last-minute rush can be very stressful. Start now and take your time!

Christmas Gifts

We are so used to shopping online now. We can shop at a touch of a button. I bought a new throw for my bed this week from Aldi which was one of the special buys. It is good quality and I like it and cheaper than similar ones on the Amazon site. I have ordered one Christmas gift from Amazon, though.

Singles gift day

That throw is a gift to myself and in China, they have a special day for single people when they are encouraged to buy gifts for themselves. Would it catch on here? Yes, I think with the right kind of promotions it would definitely catch on.

Poundland is worth checking out if you’re making up Christmas stockings or goody bags. They are great for things like gift bags and wrapping paper too. Goody bags can be great for any age group and can be personalised to make them extra-special.

Shop local

As I’m preparing for Christmas, I will also check out local shops and buy from those where I can. Our High Streets are dying because of relentless competition from the supermarkets and online retailers. We need to support the traders that are left.

The big supermarkets like Asda and Tesco have offers on Christmas essentials to remind us to buy batteries for those new gifts or to make sure we have some replacements for our essentials like the TV remote control. It is also a good idea to stock up on other essentials like tissues and toilet rolls.

Preparing for Christmas

Food and drink is an important part of Christmas and the obligatory turkey. I need to find somewhere I can get a fresh turkey from or I don’t think I’ll bother. The frozen turkey doesn’t seem very good quality. For things like chocolates and alcoholic drinks, I find Aldi is really good. You tend to get better quality and great prices. Their luxury mince pies always get good reviews as well. I shop at different supermarkets every week and so get familiar with all the offers that each one has. I bought gluten-free biscuits at Asda and they do gluten-free and dairy-free chocolate that I can treat myself to as well.

That’s it for this week. We should all be preparing for Christmas now and hunting down the bargains! As always, if you would like to subscribe to my blog just enter your email address at the top of the sidebar or follow me on Twitter for updates. You can also find links on my Facebook page.
