Sausage and ham salad #food #photography

While I’ve been in lockdown, I’ve been doing a lot of food photography and preparing meals that not only taste good but look good too! Today it was sausage and ham salad.

Ingredients

sausage and ham (the sausage was one of those special gluten-free ones)

rocket, cress, radish, iceberg lettuce and cucumber

tomato, beetroot, apple and grapes

new potatoes – salad cream or mayonnaise

Sausage and ham salad

You obviously don’t need a degree in rocket science or food technology to make this salad. You just have to arrange the ingredients in a creative way on a plate! You do have to cook new potatoes and sausage first. I cooked the sausages yesterday and kept them in the fridge.

Metering

There was a little skill involved in taking the photo. I used my Nikon D750 which is back from repair. I paid particular attention to the metering and focusing and shot the picture at f 4.5. I usually shoot wide-open at f 3.5 but I have noticed the far edge of the plate going out of focus so maybe the depth of field was too shallow. I’m quite pleased with the picture but next time I’ll use fresh new potatoes, those were out of a tin. It is better to cook them with their skins on too.

On a diet?

If you’re on a diet this sausage and ham salad is great. I think it is well under 250 calories which is a good target for a meal. I had fruit afterwards and as I don’t need to lose weight I’ll have a snack and a small bar of chocolate this afternoon. Afternoon tea is a trend now! I have Hartley’s jam on gluten-free toast. If you don’t need to eat gluten-free like me and don’t need to diet, why not treat yourself to an exceedingly good cake with your afternoon tea?

That’s all for today. I enjoyed my salad and that is what life is about. Right? If you would like to subscribe to my blog, as always, just enter your email address in one of the spaces provided or follow me on Twitter for links to the latest posts. Those links are also on my Facebook page.
