summer landscapes

We had a little sunshine at the weekend and so I shot a few landscapes. I have been trying to promote local events, especially charity events, but landscape photography is more relaxing with its beautiful scenery.

Summer landscapes

My first photo is of Forge Mill lake in Sandwell valley, the location is not only good for photography but has a rich history too. It’s a good place to shoot summer landscapes.

The canalised River Tame runs past the lake through the countryside and is the site of an RSPB centre which is a magnet for local bird watchers and wildlife photographers.

This path is used by horse riders, cyclists, runners and walkers; who all share the scenic route through the valley.

Sandwell Valley is a nature reserve just outside West Bromwich and is crossed by the M6 motorway. The Newton Road runs through the centre. Much of it is occupied by private gold courses, but you can access Forge Mill Farm and Forge Mill lake and a little farther down Forge Lane is Swan Pool. It’s worth visiting, but is being encroached upon by new housing developments. I suppose we should enjoy it before this scene becomes a new riverside housing development for overpaid bureaucrats.

My photography outings will change soon as we move into Autumn. My next event will probably be the Tipton Canal Festival, which offers a lot of opportunities for interesting photos. As the leaves fall from the trees there will be an array of different colours and opportunities for landscape photos too. It’s just two weeks to the beginning of Autumn and we have to prepare for the dark days of winter. I photographed some events in winter last year and would like a more powerful Speedlight (flash) to use at the events this year. I think I’ll have to consider a new camera bag too, if I keep buying equipment! I keep trying to get better shots all the time.

I’ll finish with some shots from last summer and Autumn. You can subscribe to this blog or you can follow me on Twitter for updates. There is still time to shoot a few summer landscapes before Autumn changes the scenery.
