Because they are worth it? #philosophy

We’ve all seen those simpering L’Oreal adverts with the fake smile that accompanies the “because I’m worth it,” quote. These over-paid stars actually try to convince themselves that they are worth their obscene rewards. They might think they are worth it, but do they feel they are worth it?

Another challenging week #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so once again I share my thoughts with you and give you access to darker pathways of my mind. I actually went out on Friday, I don’t usually, the traffic is horrendous on a Friday. I decided to go to the food bank because they were in need of donations and while I was out I thought I would see if there was a photo-opportunity at the litter pick. While I was there, I thought I would check out the pool in the morning light. You know how one thought leads to another as you make life challenging …

Now what was my backup plan?

Sam's dream and my backup plan

This is a weekend of celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday. I photographed this event yesterday which went well until the heavens opened. I’m getting to be quite a good sky watcher and weather predictor and was in my car driving home when the rain came down. That was my backup plan. (more…)

Focus on my blog #blogging

BIG NIGHT IN FOCUS

The focus for my blog this week was a night out at the town hall  where I took  pictures again. It was the mayor’s big charity night and raised money for the Acorn’s children’s hospice. I hope my efforts writing about events and taking photos will make them more popular. (more…)

A Scrooge-like Christmas? #ramble

People haven’t been spending in the shops this week even though stores are cutting prices and having early sales. We do have official austerity and the poorest in society have been hard hit by government policies. (more…)

Grassroots civil society

Welcome to another Sunday ramble when I let you into the dustier pathways of my mind. No prizes for guessing what’s on my mind this morning. I’m out taking photographs again today and the weather is promising to be cloudy with sunny intervals. The colour of the sky is actually reflected down and and affects my photos. I often brighten up my photos to make them sunnier! (more…)

An evening with Darlaston Rotary Club

Gill Knight

I went to an event organised by Darlaston Rotary Club, yesterday evening. This was unusual for me and only the third time I had photographed an event. The event was held at Darlaston All Active a community venture focused on helping people to stay active. The guest speaker was Gill Knight (pictured) who gave us an excellent talk about the work of Mary’s Meals. (more…)

England in summer

DSC_1500

Last month, I turned art critic and did a review of an exhibition at Walsall art gallery. Yesterday, I was out photographing the carnival in the park. It was a nice afternoon and it’s been a long time since we have seen such a good turnout. I’m sure many people went in the evening when things had cooled down a little.

Finance | What would you do?

Food and drink

Lotto

The slogan for this week’s national lottery draw here in the UK is – what would you do? What would you do if you won £4,000,000 on the lottery? Would you buy a lots of food and drinks and have  a party to celebrate? This week the British government again pumped 50 billion into the economy, affectively devaluing money again. This will probably cause inflation over the next year of around 5% devaluing £4,000,000 by around £200,000! Michael Winner once described having £3,000,000 as being comfortable; now we find with £4,000,000 you lose £4,000 a week as your money is devalued! (more…)
