Have a nice day #thrifty #frugal
Just driving to the supermarket these days is stressful and so isn’t it a relief when to find the checkout person is pleasant and helpful? Well run companies know this and train their staff to de-stress us at the checkout knowing we will do almost anything to avoid stress. Stress costs us money because as we walk around the supermarket we are tempted by sugary foods like chocolate and by alcohol. It is worse for smokers who will gasp their way to the cigarette kiosk and then hurry outside to light up.
The Oak House #photography #art
I’ve been thinking about art this week. Many of those early photographers were artists and were fascinated by the new medium. Now many photographers specialise in fine art photography. I want to do an art project but I’m not quite sure what I want to do. I know that the images that I produce must elicit an emotional response from the viewers. I have a photograph printed on canvas on display in Wednesbury Art Gallery and that does produce a response. That artwork is called “Bluebells in the Hedgerow” and is in the Sandwell Art Trails exhibition. I hope you’ll vote for it if you visit the exhibition. I now want a work that is more than one image and I want more of a response than people simply liking it. I want people to relate to the images. I went to the Oak House at West Bromwich to take a few shots on Sunday and to get ideas.
Dopamine and finance #finance #rewards
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centres. So what does this have to do with finance? The fact that people crave pleasure and rewards has everything to do with finance. Take a look at the photos of those celebrities leaving Buckingham Palace right after being rewarded with a medal for services rendered. They are positively beaming. Rewards can come in many ways, a person simply being nice to you can zap those reward centres of your brain with dopamine. That can be the check out girl at Aldi (yes, they are trained to do it) or the assistant in Harrods who treats you like royalty. Besides buying products, you also get an experience.
