Metro ideas for a growing metropolis #opinion

It has been announced that the Midland Metro tram system will be extended from Wednesbury to Merry Hill via Toll End and Dudley. Work on the new ‘super hospital’ in Smethwick, also called the ‘Metro’ will be speeded up, too. The government will go ahead with HS2 as well which will sort of link with the Metro tram system in the Midlands. Who will benefit from all this infrastructure construction? The big construction companies will benefit, but I’m not too sure about anyone else.

Shooting and editing winter #photography

1 Hydes Pool Wednesbury

Winter photography can be difficult because there is a lot less light. You can make the sensor on your camera more sensitive to light by increasing the ISO. You can also use wider apertures than you would in summer. (more…)

Wednesbury and the Black Country

This is the Midland Metro, a light rail system that runs between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The depot where the trams are stored and maintained is half way between in Wednesbury. This is where I live. What’s it like here in the Black Country? Check out my photos to get some idea… (more…)

Tolerance please. #ramble

NOVEMBER 1 (105)

This is Wednesbury where I live. I live just down the hill from those two churches that you see in the distance. On the left,t there is the Catholic church, St Mary’s and on the right, St Bartholomew’s church. We even cater for people who need to face Mecca to pray; that’s in the middle distance… (more…)

Tipton in Autumn

Autumn gives me a variation of colours to photograph, but after a while I want something different. A subject that will look good with the autumn colours as the backdrop. It’s the same with sunsets, they are great for a backdrop but not as the subject of the photograph. (more…)

Metering and cropping #photography

Wednesbury Metro station

Many cameras now offer a choice of metering. The camera has a built-in light meter and so adjusts settings depending on the light. In this photograph, the light varies throughout the frame. It was lighter on the left where the sun was shining through from the back of that building. (more…)

METRO (1)

This isn’t a very good picture, but it demonstrates what I want to say. There is a post on the left that is out of focus and the birdhouse and tree are in focus. The depth of field is quite narrow. As you go away from the optimal distance from the camera things get blurred, but our subject is in sharp focus. (more…)

For better or worse? #life

I’ve seen a lot of changes in my life, some good and some bad. This new hospital is one of the good ones. I’m not too keen on a lot of modern buildings, but a hospital simply has to be practical. Hygiene and cleanliness are paramount and this hospital is very clean. (more…)

Sunday photography

This is the waterfront bar near Walsall Art Gallery where I went on Sunday. It’s a reasonable good place to take photographs especially in bad weather, because I can also go into the art gallery. (more…)

Robots and have a nice day. #life

Could the Metro be robot controlled?

A featured post by Mike Maynard (editor).

I’ve started today’s post with a picture of the Midland Metro light rail or tram system that runs from Birmingham to Wolverhampton in the Black Country. I imagine robots were used in the manufacture of that tram. (more…)

Neodigital Art: Different styles

1 sunset 2

I was very creative last week, but all I have done to this image of a sunset is make it a little darker, add contrast and crop it at the bottom. I also added the border, which I don’t usually do, but I think it works for this image. (more…)
