Christmas in just three weeks #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and the sun’s shining and so I’ll let you into the most inner sanctum of my mind and share my thoughts with you once again. As usual, I’ve been taking photographs and actually spoke to some of the people I was photographing yesterday. I went to a book launch and bought myself a Christmas present, signed by the authors.

Seasons #photo-challenge

LANDSCAPE (48)

I hope I’m not confusing my regular readers by doing an extra post on Friday, but this is a special one for the WordPress photo challenge. The theme is ‘seasons’ and here in the UK, we are coming to the end of the winter season and looking forward to the spring equinox in four weeks time. (more…)

Christmas thoughts #life

It’s Christmas Eve tomorrow and I still haven’t finished my Christmas shopping. Things aren’t going to plan, partly because my heating stopped working. I’m waiting in today for someone to fix it. (more…)

Autumn experiments #photography

AUTUMN 2015 The Delves, Walsall

I was in the mood for experimenting with photography this week and did some shots into the sun and played around with camera settings. This shot was a little boring, so I put my car in the foreground to make it look more interesting.

No such thing as perfect

There is no such thing as perfect

Sometimes I’ll look at a photograph that I’ve taken and see lots wrong with it and consider just deleting it. There is no such thing as perfect. We just have to do our best and then have to accept what we have. (more…)

Sunset #photography

TRUCK sunset

Truck with a sunset as the backdrop

The weather isn’t ideal for photography just lately, we have had a lot of rain. Yesterday was no exception, but the sky cleared a little to give a bright sunset. Most people take sunset pictures and they all tend to be similar. (more…)

Competition photos

I have taken this shot many times, but I wanted a shot for a competition and so waited for just the right light and went to take this shot about an hour before sunset. I was lucky that guy was there fishing! (more…)

Photography: best pictures of 2014

Best Pictures

This pool is about a mile from my home and I often take photos there. They are always different, because we go through different seasons and experience different weather. This picture has to be my best one this year. (more…)

Photography: more night shots

It’s the official switch-on of our Christmas lights on Friday and I want to be there again to take photographs. I made this image, to promote it a little, with PhotoScape. (more…)

Photography: camera pods

1 Fujifilm camera

One way to shoot that selfie is to mount your camera on the wall like this. I used my Nikon to take this shot of my Fujifilm S5600. The mount holding it to the wall tiles in my kitchen is a suction mount. It could hold it on any smooth surface like the roof of a car,  to shoot stills or video. (more…)

Neodigital Art | Changing winter scenes

The Milky Pool 001

I took this photo this afternoon. What do you think? These are the first ones of February. How do you think they would compare to January? It was just as cold, a biting wind today. This is the Milky Pool, that I have photographed before.

Neodigital Art | Editing – step by step

Hickman Park (2)

This photograph was taken late in the day and so we have lots of shadows. The benches in the foreground give the picture some depth. Will editing make it better? (more…)

Neodigital Art | Creativity

The Milky Pool

Neodigital Art is about creating a work of art using a digital device. That device could be a phone with a camera, a digital camera or a scanner. I used a digital camera for this picture, but I have also drawn pictures with a pen, coloured them with felt tip pens and then scanned them. After scanning your picture you can then edit it with photo editing software. (more…)

Neodigital Art | Retaking the shot

Woden Lake Wednesbury

I took this photo of the lake in March of this year. Is it worth going back and retaking the shot? All today’s pictures were taken fairly close to my home. You don’t have to travel far, you can go back to places you’ve been before to explore further. The light changes with the weather and the seasons, so you keep on getting different shots. Even the time of day makes a difference, dawn is very different to dusk. (more…)
