Shooting events in low light #photography
I’ll be photographing the carnival in a couple of weeks and I have other events coming up. We can’t always count on getting good light and even bright sunlight gives us dark shadows. There will be some events indoors as well. Nikon and Canon DSLRs both meter the light using TTL technology. That is through the lens metering (TTL) and this gives good control over the flash. The flash can be used in bright sunlight to light up those dark shadows but if the skies are dark then another option is to use a higher ISO setting.
The creation of images #ramble
Once again, it is Sunday morning and I share my thought with you. Not that much has been going on that I care to share. I’m not very good at sharing, I prefer to be alone a lot of the time. It’s easier to be alone sometimes, isn’t it? Then people can’t cause you stress or worry or whatever. I often find it easier to do my own thing too and if I make a mess of it I know who to blame! I try hard to work with others and accept collective decisions but it isn’t easy. That’s why I like photography and the creation of images, it’s just me and my camera, unless I decide to point it at people…
Developing your photography #photography
I experiment a lot with my photography and take an artistic approach. I’m not just taking snaps I want to create artistic pictures that can be displayed and bring some pleasure for years to come. Some photographers have rules that help them compose good shots. I tend to experiment much more with my shots and so have much more rejected. As you are developing your style you will see what works and what doesn’t work. In developing your landscape photography try the 1/3 rule that says 1/3 of the frame should be land or sky.
Archive and library #photography
My camera takes photos that are 24 Megapixel and often that translates to a file size of 12 Mb or more. I then resize the folder to a size suitable for the internet which is typically 1 Mb file size per image. The images take up a lot of space on my laptop and video takes up even more. It is essential then to move them onto some kind of removable storage. My archive consists of a 500 Gb external hard drive and I have just bought a 1 Tb flash drive which will become another archive for images, video and music. I can simply move the latest files from the library on my laptop to an archive and free up space.
Walsall wandering #photography
Walsall aye it
Walsall wandering is on my mind this morning. Yes, the sun is shining and so I’m thinking of crossing over the M6 motorway and going to wonderful Walsall. The town centre is a municipal disaster but there are some interesting places around Walsall. Yes, I think I’ll wander around Walsall. (more…)
Photography: best pictures of 2014
Best Pictures
This pool is about a mile from my home and I often take photos there. They are always different, because we go through different seasons and experience different weather. This picture has to be my best one this year. (more…)
Neodigital Art | More diverse editing
The weather has improved a little now that we are closer to summer. I took this shot on Sunday and it was quite sunny. Notice how I’ve used the trees to add depth. I didn’t edit much, I just added some contrast.
Neodigital Art | The Oak House
I went to the Oak House in West Bromwich on Sunday and took photographs. There is always somewhere to have an afternoon out taking photos. The sun was bright and so that presented new problems. It was dark at about 1 o’clock and then the sky cleared and I had bright sunlight. You can see the light reflected off light colours and shadows in this picture. Most people stand in front of the house and get a nice symmetrical picture. You lose all depth then. I have the tree for some depth and the angle makes the house look taller on the left of the picture and smaller as it goes away from us. We have a lot of perspective.
Neodigital Art | Sometimes, we have to get lucky
I took this shot a number of times, in the opposite direction, but this one seems better. Would it be better symmetrical? Would it be better zoomed in more? I tried all the different options and this one seemed the best! (more…)
