There are many things that you can photograph, it doesn’t have to be pretty landscapes. I took this photo yesterday; the first bridge carries the railway and then there is an aqueduct. You can see the steep ramp we climbed to get to the top of the aqueduct to photograph the canal. (more…)
I photographed the Tipton Canal and Community Festival on Sunday. It’s organised by the Tipton Community Association. This is their stall at the event. It was very cloudy and so not good for photography. (more…)
On Sunday, I took to the local canals to take photos of narrow-boats. It was early afternoon when I took this picture and you can see quite long shadows. The sun was south of me and quite bright. The colours are changing now and becoming much brighter. The grass is very green after all the rain. I’m shooting westerly for this picture. (more…)
I’ve been asked to represent the Black Country by entering a waterways photography competition and so I had my waterways shots planned out on Sunday. This stretch of the Walsall canal faces north so I wanted to be there close to midday. This Black Country lad caught a pike so I had to record this event for posterity! Art or photography?
I regard photography as a branch of art. Just snapping a picture isn’t art but if you put some effort into producing something aesthetically pleasing, then I think it’s art. I don’t edit a great deal and wouldn’t consider making the sky in my photograph blue. I think the trees looking like silhouettes against the sky and the rather dull colours tells you this is a winter photograph. It was in fact freezing! It was a nice church though, a shame there was no where else to park my car. (more…)
