Summer carnivals #photography

CARNIVALS 2014 (70)

It’s only just over two weeks now to the summer solstice and we have really good light on sunny days for landscape photography; but I’m looking now for colourful events like summer carnivals and fun days. These two lovely ladies did a great pose in the summer sunshine.  (more…)

Tipton Canal boat gathering #photography

TIPTON BOATS AND CANAL (148)

The weather finally improved at Easter for a narrow-boat gathering at Easter. It was still cloudy which gave poor light, but I raised the ISO on my camera and took lots of pictures. It’s a good idea to use a wide aperture and get quite close with narrow-boats. (more…)

Heritage of the Black Country. #photography

HERITAGE

There are many things that you can photograph, it doesn’t have to be pretty landscapes. I took this photo yesterday; the first bridge carries the railway and then there is an aqueduct. You can see the steep ramp we climbed to get to the top of the aqueduct to photograph the canal. (more…)

The Frying Pan

This Sunday I was asked to take photos at the Frying Pan in Darlaston of a meeting of the horse owners of Tipton that was organised by Jason Foxall (pictured) in memory of his uncle, Colin “Kingy” Salter; a local character from Darlaston who passed away a couple of years ago.   (more…)

Photography: the canals

1 scenic Tipton

On Sunday, I took to the local canals to take photos of narrow-boats. It was early afternoon when I took this picture and you can see quite long shadows. The sun was south of me and quite bright. The colours are changing now and becoming much brighter. The grass is very green after all the rain. I’m shooting westerly for this picture. (more…)

Photography: Competition images

2 fishing catch

I’ve been asked to represent the Black Country by entering a waterways photography competition and so I had my waterways shots planned out on Sunday. This stretch of the Walsall canal faces north so I wanted to be there close to midday. This Black Country lad caught a pike so I had to record this event for posterity! It’s not a great shot, the sun went in for a little while! (more…)

Neodigital Art | Winter locations

Art or photography?

I regard photography as a branch of art. Just snapping a picture isn’t art but if you put some effort into producing something aesthetically pleasing, then I think it’s art. I don’t edit a great deal and wouldn’t consider making the sky in my photograph blue. I think the trees looking like silhouettes against the sky and the rather dull colours tells you this is a winter photograph. It was in fact freezing! It was a nice church though, a shame there was no where else to park my car. (more…)
