The winner takes it all? #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so I’m rambling again. What’s on my mind this morning? My great niece Megan, was on ‘The Voice’ last night doing battle with a team-mate. That is not a good idea, team-mates are supposed to be on the same side and the song was  a compromise that didn’t really suit either performer.

She still performed professionally despite the unimaginative format of the show. I have seen versions of the show overseas and that just shows how unimaginative the producers of talent shows are. They stick to a reworked format that goes back to the days of Hughie Green and Opportunity Knocks with the same tired old ‘winner takes it all format’.

Fortunately, many of the performers dream big and do have imagination. It is not like in the 1960’s when the music scene came alive and the Beatles took America by storm. That scene was driven by the grass roots and one or two entrepreneurs who made fame possible, not just for one act, but a long list of bands and performers. They wrote great songs too, that are still being performed today. I have heard bands like the Beatles and Abba being criticised but they were the super-groups and they delivered amazing music.

Oh, sorry I promised myself I wouldn’t use that horrible buzz word ‘amazing’. I’ll try to be more careful. Everything is bloody amazing these days…

Anyway, Megan on stage reminded me of when her nan took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall. It must be in the genes. Her nan didn’t sing, that was the l’Oreal Colour championship, she was a hair stylist.

Creative Group

I went to a creative group this week and we were making ‘creature beasts’, which involved sewing. My eyesight isn’t good enough for sewing. I have to use a white stick for driving since the guide dog got run over…  Needless to say, that wasn’t a great success for me, but it was for others. We should all have a go at something we have some inclination towards. My left eye isn’t too bad when it’s pressed towards the viewfinder of a camera, so I’ll stick to writing and photography.

Rod Stewart

I have bought tickets for my sister (Megan’s nan) for her birthday at the end of the month. We are going to see a Rod Stewart tribute act at the town hall. That won’t be too far for me to drive home in the dark…

Winners and losers

There are winners and losers in life, I suppose, but the real winners are the ones who enjoy what they are doing. It might be singing, hair styling, art or making creature beasts. It doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy it and it attracts a little recognition. We all need a bit of recognition or we just feel our lives aren’t worthwhile. Money doesn’t make people happy or better than others. Look at the old Etonians running the country. I bet none of them have ever made a creature beast. They’re all talk.

It’s quite sunny today, so I’ll cook my lunch and then this afternoon venture out and point my camera at things. I have a new prime lens to try out. That was my bit of excitement this week. I got a new toy to play with…

Dream big

We have to dream big. Maybe in the near future, Megan will sing at the town hall and I can take the photographs. I might even buy tickets for all her kids, as well as her nan…

That’s all for today. I hope you enjoyed these weeks glimpse into the complexity of my mind. It’s gone totally blank now, so it must be time for a cup of tea.
