The winter solstice #ramble

Preparing for Christmas is always difficult even though I don’t celebrate much now. Buying presents and doing shopping can be a nightmare. I’m just about done with all that now. I just need to put petrol in my car. I’ve even bought some lottery tickets for the draw on Christmas day. The lottery isn’t the same as it used to be, even on Christmas day. It was much better in the beginning with Mystic Meg! Anyway, it’s the winter solstice and the days will start getting longer now. We have to think positively.

The winter solstice

I won’t get many visitors but I still bought mince pies and a bottle of sherry. I hardly drink alcohol and as a coeliac I can’t eat the mince pies. I can enjoy a nice Christmas dinner and so I will cook on Christmas day. I have a choice of duck or turkey.

Looking back…

Looking back over the year it was a difficult year with lots of health problems and for a while I thought I might have to have vascular surgery. It turned out to be too dangerous so I’ll have to just live with the disability and try to improve things with exercise and medication. It could be worse. I managed to be involved in the Arts festival. I had six pictures in the exhibition, I met some new people and bought a new camera. I also published some new art cards which I am inserting into my Christmas cards again. I didn’t take many pictures with my new camera but I’ll be out when spring comes with my camera.

The winter solstice

The winter solstice marks the shortest day and we can look forward to longer days now. The only advantage of shorter days is the sunrise, which I actually see now! I don’t usually get up that early. The light at sunrise can be great for photography and I think I might put sunrise photography on my bucket list before it’s too late. We should try everything at least once. It will be quite unusual to reverse all my thinking about the light with the light source in the south east instead of the north west that I’m used to. I need to try that soon or I’ll have to get up in the early hours to catch the sunrise.

Looking forward

The year 2020 should be interesting. We will see further signs of a world dominated by Artificial intelligence. Intelligent life on planet earth at last! What will it make of Donald and Boris? At least Comrade Corbyn is bound for the back benches. He should go quickly but I think he will remain defiant and drag the Labour Party deeper into the abyss. I hope the Lib Dems get a proper leader who can sweep up the moderates that the Conservatives and Labour have rejected. There are a lot of experienced politicians at national and local level looking for a new home.

That’s all for today. I’ll try to remember to post a Christmas photography post this week. If you would like to follow my blog just enter your email address in one of the spaces provided.
