Week four of the pandemic lockdown #ramble

It’s Sunday morning and so once again I’ll share my thoughts with you. I’m on the 4th week of this pandemic lockdown. I’ve been taking photographs each day to document my isolation. I think images capture the memories far better than just words but I have used a few words to title the images.

Tomato seedlings

My photograph yesterday was of the tomato seedlings that I have grown from a few seeds from a tomato. I’m also growing potatoes in pots and in the garden. It will give me something to do and something to photograph.

Future uncertainty

The future is uncertain. I read this morning that a team in Oxford hope to have a vaccine for the coronavirus by September but a WHO scientist says that might not be possible and we might have to learn to live with the virus. The flu vaccine has been success so I’m hopeful but I am also aware that after many years of research we still don’t have a vaccine for the common cold. We will have to wait and see what happens. I’m not a great mixer and like solitary walks taking photographs so whatever happens I’ll adjust. Seeing specialists at the hospital could be a big problem, though.

Making the best of it

I have to make the best of this pandemic lockdown so I try to think positive. Getting a food delivery is high on my list of priorities. I had a free trial of a delivery pass but all the delivery slots were sold out. I’ve just paid £55 for a 12 month delivery pass with the supermarket and so I hope some slots come available.

Food groups

I need protein, carbohydrate and fibre and so I’ve been looking at those 3 food groups. I have enough protein foods for 10 weeks or more. I think I should have enough carbohydrate in the form of potatoes and gluten-free bread. It’s fresh vegetables for fibre and vitamins that will be a problem but maybe I can ask a friend to get me some fruit and veg to last a few weeks. I do have frozen veg and some tinned fruit to eat if there are gaps in supply.

Every cloud

It is hard to find a silver lining in this pandemic lockdown cloud but I had an idea I might get my car repaired while I’m in lockdown. I’ll photograph the damage today and email photographs to the repairers and see if they can collect my car, fix it and bring it back. I will at least get that job done.

Pandemic lockdown

This pandemic lockdown has forced me to think about the future and appreciate what I have. When it has finished I’ll buy some things for my garden and try to make it nicer. I’ll also finish making my bedroom nice, it needs a little painting and the door refitting. I might have to make some serious adjustments like wearing a mask when I go out and maybe avoiding contact with people for a while.
