Weekend events #photography

I photographed two, weekend events starting in Darlaston with the Summer Fayre at Rough Hay Community Centre and then on Sunday a Black Country event when horse owners gathered for an annual memorial drive that took them towards Wolverhampton  and the ‘Merry Boys on the Willenhall road. I’m not too sure where it went after that!

At the community centre, I started with the indoor shots using a flash and tried to show what the event was all about which was basically stalls and a tombola with some face painting.

Wide aperture shots of people are always great but getting a natural shot can be difficult. It can be hard for people to just relax and enjoy the experience.

This is Libby, Darlaston’s ‘Teen natural beauty’ winner. She was happy to pose, but the first shots were photo-bombed by someone in the background. I would have preferred natural light for these shots but it was dark and overcast. I think Libby won a professional photo-shoot and so maybe the light will be better for that. A warm light would be better and a more dynamic picture would be possible with a wide aperture, some movement and a really fast shutter speed.

The second part of my weekend events was the horse drive that began at the Frying Pan in Darlaston. Again, wide aperture shots will give a sharp image with a slightly blurred background.

You have to be quick getting these shots and I was a little slow with this one. These lads want the horse in the shot which is more important than themselves! I think this black beauty is called Bob Marley.

This is the type of shot they like that shows the horse turned out for a special event, groomed and looking great. These lads are quite expert at breeding and caring for horses and they have all been well looked after.

Weekend events

I’ve never too sure which weekend events I will be photographing but all this month is the Black Country Festival and I shall be at Wednesbury Carnival on Saturday the 9th of July, so say hello if you see me. I’ll be wearing my summer hat and will have a Nikon DSLR hanging around my neck.
